Jay Penske's in!
Dragon Racing is Penske’s IndyCar team, which traces its roots back to the 2007 IndyCar season (it first raced as Luczo-Dragon Racing). The team currently runs two cars in IndyCar, driven by Sebastien Bourdais and Sebastian Saavedra. Dragon Racing is not to be confused with IndyCar’s Team Penske, which belongs to Jay’s father, Roger Penske.
“Formula E symbolizes a vision for the future of motorsports and the automotive industry,” says Penske in a statement, “while directly appealing to a new generation of global race fans. Formula E offers a tremendous opportunity for our many technology and media partners, and we look forward to its inevitable growth and ascendancy over the next decade.”
Jay Penske is actually the second Formula E team owner with a background in IndyCar. The first is Michael Andretti, a former driver and son of the famed Mario Andretti, who heads Andretti Autosport. Andretti driver Ryan Hunter-Reay won last year’s IndyCar title.
